"Because you have the right to know"

We believe we have an obligation to you to be as transparent as possible about our entire supply chain and beyond. Therefore, we provide you with all the information from the country of origin of the fiber, to the production of the fabric and most importantly, to all the information regarding the production of the garment by the Eyes of Lights Seamstresses in Ghana. In addition, we reveal the true cost behind all our products - from materials to labor to transportation.

Price Transparency

How is the Price made up?

Materials

These costs include the fabric and yarn as well as buttons, zipper and rubber bands. Part of our products has comparatively low material costs, because only fabric and yarn are used in production. Other products additionally include buttons, zippers and rubber bands, accordingly the cost of material increases. The cost of the material also depends on the quality of the fabrics. For example, a normal jersey fabric made of organic cotton (like our Iconic T-Shirt) is cheaper than the Tencel Lyocell fabric we use for our Long Cardigan. We offer sizes S-XL and 36-42. According to the size, the fabric and ingredients consumption varies. We always give the average price here.

Labor/Eyes of Light

This is the price we pay the Eyes of Light Seamstresses to produce the particular garment. We value people over growth and profit, that's why we always pay attention to living wage and not just minimum wage. In Ghana, the minimum wage in 2022 will be GHS 13.53 per day (1,96 €). According to Trading Economics' global macro models, the living wage in Ghana will be about GHS 680.00/month (94,96 €) in 2021. We want to pay an additional 15-20% on top of the living wage. That will be around 5,60 € per day, three times more than the minimum wage per day.

Logistics

Include the transportation of goods, fees and packaging costs.

Company Costs

These costs include the expenses for sampling, operations and maintenance, insurance, our website and marketing. Since we have to pay production costs (like fabrics/yarn/sampling etc.) in advance, these costs allow us to invest in future products. Fairness applies to all contacts we have with NAO Studios. With these costs we can pay fairly all the people involved - designers, photographers, freelancers and consultants.

Material Transparency

Which materials belong to the garment?

Fiber

We will be able to tell you the country of origin of the fiber for almost every item, as our suppliers communicate this transparently. So you know, traced back to the origin of the e.g. cotton plant, where the journey of your garment began.

Fabric

Our two fabric suppliers also communicate the location where the fabric is woven. In some cases including the specific production site. Our goal is to communicate and introduce you to these production sites as well.

Thread

Have you ever thought about what material the thread (with which the garments are sewn) is actually made of? Many companies use strong polyester yarns, which are much more durable and therefore more popular. However, this does not make the article biodegradable. We use only certified organic cotton yarn, which has also given us the one or other difficulty, but we believe it is best for our project and our mission.

Care Label

The Care Label is also a component on the garment that can lead to the garment being non-biodegradable or more difficult to recycle. For our products we use only care labels made of 100% certified organic cotton. Although they fray more quickly and can lose their shape during washing, this increases the chance of the garment being recyclable after it has been worn.

Garment

We show you the team behind the product. We introduce every single seamstress. NAO products are made by people for people.
Check your Care Label when you buy. On each label you will find the name of the person who made the garment.
